WHAT IS CIVILISATION?
The basic social and physical structures of our civilisation rely almost entirely on the provision of electricity, however there are 1.2 billion people on earth who have no access at all to electric power, and their number grows by 1000 every hour.

OBJECTIVE
The development of a small, affordable 12 volt generator that requires no fuel, produces no emissions, is easy to service and repair, operate up to 24 hours per day, and that could supply the needs of a single family.

THE MAGPIE PROJECT

A small floating generator, operating on rivers, streams, estuaries and canals, and built largely of recycled materials. It would be supplied in kit form and assembled on site using a 10mm ratchet spanner.

POTENTIAL MARKET
If as few as 1 in 10,000 of the 1.2 billion people without electricity live within 100 metres of a suitable flow of water, then the potential market Is a high as 50,000 units.

THE CONCEPT
The accompanying 30 second video presentation shows the basic components required, and the assembly process of the generator. Visit the website at “magpiepower.com” where you can view the complete presentation and make a comment.

NEXT STEPS
Assistance is required with the detailed design, particularly the electrical component, the preparation of plans and specifications, and the construction of a full scale prototype.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Input is invited from people and organisations willing to participate in the final development of the Magpie. This could be practical, technical or financial, and include government, universities, colleges, consultants, charities, philanthropists or individuals.
